Pi as many of you would know, is a mathematical constant. The value for pi is 3.14159265359, However it is usually denoted as 3.14 or 22/7.

The 14th of March (14/3) is considered Pi day, as it is the third month and fourteenth day. 3.14. This post is to give you a deeper insight into this irrational number.

Pi is a constant, and it can be obtained by dividing a circleā€™s circumference by itā€™s diameter. no matter what values you insert, Pi will always remain the same. it can be used to calculate the area of a circle, the volume of a sphere, and so on. To calculate the area, all one needs to do is multiply Pi by the radius squared. For a sphere, one needs to multiply 4/3 by pi by the radius cubed.

This constant was discovered by a very well known and smart man, called Archimedes. When the ancient Babylonians wanted to calculate the area of a circle, (god knows what they wanted it for) they multiplied the radius of the circle squared by 3. this number was acquired by approximation, when they multiplied random numbers with the radius squared and checked what gave them a close answer.

Celebrate today by calculating the area of pies, and rewarding yourself by eating your mathematical muse itself, Happy Pi Day to all!
